Wassersleben on the Flensburg Fjord

Wassersleben between the beach, fjord and border trails

Wassersleben combines a fine sandy beach on the Flensburg Fjord with hiking and cycling trails close to the border. The lido has an approximately 600 m long sandy beach with views of Denmark and the Flensburg Fjord. This places the coastal landscape at the heart of your choice of destination: you can combine your stay by the water with walks, cycling tours and maritime experiences without reducing the character of the place to just one leisure activity.

Beach and promenade as points of orientation

During the bathing season from 1 June to 15 September, the beach in Wassersleben is supervised by the local DLRG branch. The first redesigned section of the promenade provides more space for pedestrians and cyclists. For arrival or excursions, it is also relevant that Wassersleben is easily accessible by bicycle or by bus routes 1 and 7. Those arriving by car can park in Wassersleben.

Hiking and cycling at the border

A distinctive starting point for active days is the Schusterkate in Wassersleben. The 95 km-long Fjord Trail can begin here. On the German side, it is the continuation of the Danish Gendarme Path and extends from the Danish border to the Schlei. Along the way, the trail offers views of the fjord as well as natural and near-natural areas. For planning your day, the area offers several ways to get around: the Fjord Trail runs 95 km to the Schlei, you can walk through the Krusau Tunnel Valley in the border area, and the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route runs from Wassersleben to Kappeln. Depending on the time frame you want for your day, you can therefore plan a hike, a walk along the border or a cycling tour and enjoy each option separately on site. The Schusterkate thus connects the starting point of the German trail with the border crossing to the Danish Gendarme Path. The long route therefore requires different time planning than a short walk in the border area. Via the Schusterkate border crossing, you can walk through the Krusau Tunnel Valley and follow the Gendarme Path. For cyclists, the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route leads from Wassersleben to Kappeln.

Water, harbour and distinctive local details

Shorter activities can also be combined with a visit to the coastal town. The mini-golf course in Harrislee is located directly opposite the beach in Wassersleben. At the fjord, the Duckdalbe is an attraction and popular photo subject. It was designed by students of the Flensburg School of Applied Arts. The harbour of Segel Sport Flensburg-Harrislee e.V. is also open to guests. The harbour thus adds a maritime point of interest to the beach and trail experiences. From May to September, Bay Station is open and offers SUP hire and SUP courses.
