Maasholm: Hotels and Accommodation

Maasholm’s historic village tour can include the harbor, protected landing places for boats on the Schlei, St. Peter’s Church, the listed 1916 sea rescue station, and thatched fishermen’s houses. Maritime local history and life on the water are closely connected here.

Culture

The Tourist Information office houses a small fishing museum covering the history of local fishing. You can also obtain regional brochures and find information pillars about Maasholm and its surroundings there. Boule balls can be borrowed from the Tourist Information office for the boules court next to the motorhome site.

On Site

The Maasholm Nature Experience Centre has a wind, water and coastal playground and offers nature experience programs for tourists, school classes, groups, and children celebrating their birthday. A two-kilometer nature trail connects the Exhöft hiking car park with the Maasholm Nature Experience Centre. From Maasholm harbor, a hike of almost three kilometers also leads along the Schlei dike via Hegeberg to the Maasholm Nature Experience Centre or onward to the Baltic Sea.

Water and Trails

Small groups receive sailing instruction at Maasholm’s marina on the Schlei; when the wind is suitable, it is possible to sail past the lighthouse and out to sea. You can learn windsurfing and wingfoiling on the Wormshöfter Noor. A surf school is located directly on the shore of the Wormshöfter Noor, and water sports activities can be started directly from Maasholm.

The Schumacher Bridge in Maasholm is a starting point for excursion boats on the Schlei. Cyclists also have a clearly described route: the “Via Altona to Belgrade” cycle tour starts and ends in Maasholm and is approximately 35 kilometers long.

The Nature Park Hiking Trail begins in Maasholm in the Schlei Nature Park and crosses four nature parks in Schleswig-Holstein. The route is 180 kilometers long, marked with yellow arrows in both directions, and can be walked in shorter sections or as a loop.

Surroundings

The Baltic Sea beach can be reached from Maasholm by car in about ten minutes and by bicycle in about 15 minutes. The nearby Geltinger Birk includes beaches, lagoons, salt marshes, coastal forests, cliffs, and moorland. During bird migration, birds can be observed there at Charlotte Mill, at the Beveroe Bridge, and on the Krötenweg trail near Falshöft.
