Prinzenmoor: Hotels and Accommodation

A green path surrounds the central raised bog core in Prinzenmoor. A shorter section forms a circular trail and includes an observation hill; two visitor information boards explain the area.

Nature

Prinzenmoor lies in the Eider-Treene-Sorge lowland area on the edge of the Eider. The approximately 213-hectare FFH area is divided between Prinzenmoor and Hamdorf; about two thirds of it lie in Prinzenmoor.

The actual moorland area of Prinzenmoor is part of the “Moors of the Eider-Treene-Sorge Lowlands” FFH area. An area of 103.1 hectares has been designated as the Bauernmoor near Prinzenmoor landscape conservation area. Its habitats include regenerating peat-cutting complexes, sphagnum moss, cotton grass and floating sphagnum mats.

Cultural History

The local cultural history is connected with peat extraction and the glassworks of the 19th century. In the municipality’s heraldic symbolism, these connections are represented by a peat spade and a glass vessel.

The surrounding area of Prinzenmoor is home to the Schalenstein cultural monument, St. George’s Church in Jevenstedt and Büttelberg.
