Natural setting
Ocypel is a Kociewie village in the Tuchola Forest, situated on Lake Wielki Ocypel. In the area around Ocypel, lakes, meadows and the forests of Bory Tucholskie shape the landscape. The local recreational landscape also includes pine forests around Lake Wielki Ocypel. The lake, meadows and forest form different landscape themes within the village and shape the transition between the village, the shore and the surrounding wooded area.
On the outskirts of Ocypel lies Lake Ocypel, within the Tuchola Forest complex. The lake is associated with three larger islands: Łysica, Ostrów and Snop. Lake Wielki Ocypel is considered a large lake with recreational centres around it. Thus, open water areas, islands and wooded shores come together in the geographical setting of the village. The landscape features mentioned therefore extend from the lakeshore into the areas of nearby pine and mixed forests.
The lakeside walking trail passes recreational centres and bathing areas. Water equipment is rented at the recreational centres around Lake Ocypel, including equipment suitable for reaching the islands. Pedal boats can be used to reach the islands of the lake. The water areas, lakeside trail and islands thus stand alongside one another as distinct features of this landscape.
Trails and activities
The second stage of the “Człuchowska Way of St James” runs from Lubichowo through Ocypel and onwards to Śliwice. A cycling route called “Jezioro Piaseczno loop from Ocypel” is listed as a moderate 25-kilometre route in the wider area of Lubichowo. A walk around Lake Wielki Ocypel is considered a trail of no more than three hours, requiring no special preparation.
The trails therefore differ in form: the sequence of locations on the pilgrimage stage is followed by a catalogued cycling route with a specified length and difficulty, while the walk is characterised by a time indication and a note about preparation. These differences make the activities readable as separate forms of movement, without combining them into a single type of route. Visitor activities associated with Ocypel include kayaking, boating and cycling.
The walking route, the listed cycling route and the walk around the lake therefore represent different thematic approaches to Ocypel. In addition, the water activities mentioned point to another area of the local leisure offering, listed independently alongside walking and cycling.
Culture
Ocypel has a parish church dedicated to Our Lady, Queen of Poland. The wider regional surroundings of Ocypel include Ratusz, Adam Mickiewicz and Kościół św. Mateusza. Skórcz, Parafia Wszystkich Świętych, is located in the surrounding area of Ocypel.
The wider regional surroundings of Ocypel also include Działki, Park Miejski and wzgórze nad Górkami. The geographical references are thus distributed across the nearby surroundings and the wider regional area; each of the cultural and landscape sites mentioned retains its own geographical association.
