Water routes on the Wda and Niechwaszcz
The Wda water trail runs along the Czarna Woda–Wda section. From Czarna Woda onward, the Wda is classified as a mountain trout and grayling river according to the Polish Angling Association; the river attracts fly fishers. This brings two different interests into focus on the same river: a water trip on the Wda and fly fishing. The classification as a trout and grayling river is specifically that of the Angling Association.
The Niechwaszcz also offers a water route: its canoe trail runs from Zawada to the mouth of the river above Czarna Woda. There is a canoe rental service in town, with equipment available. Support on offer includes transporting the equipment back after the trip and assistance from a guide. Anyone planning a water-based activity can take these equipment and support options into account without confusing them with the route of either river trail.
An annual canoe trip featuring a clean-up along the Wda runs from Wojtala via Czarna Woda to Złem Mięsem. It combines a river trip with a group clean-up. The route described makes Czarna Woda a waypoint on this trip; it should not be confused with the starting and ending points of the other water routes.
Walking and cycling trails with different routes
The yellow Kociewski Trail is a walking and cycling trail that ends at Czarna Woda railway station. In the opposite direction, you can follow the green Stone Circles Trail: it starts at the station and continues via Zawada, Klonowice and Odry.
The 27-kilometre Megalithic Cultures Trail is also designated for walking and cycling. It is a circular route from Czarna Woda via Leśna Huta, Wojtal and Odry, returning to Czarna Woda. If you value a route described as a loop when choosing a trail, you can distinguish this one from routes that start or end at the railway station. Its 27-kilometre length is a specific guide for planning your day.
Another longer route is the 26-kilometre Arboretum Trail. It starts at the exhibition on the nature of the Tuchola Forest and Wda Valley and leads to the Arboretum and Dendrological Garden in Wirty. Its stated endpoints differ from routes that pass through Czarna Woda or return to the town. Depending on your interests, you can choose between trails linked to the river landscape, stone circles or the arboretum.
Pine forests and cultural features
Czarna Woda is surrounded by pine forests. Their undergrowth is rich in mushrooms, berries and other wild fruits. The forest landscape is therefore part of the town’s character, alongside its water-based activities.
The town is home to the Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa, with Stations of the Cross by Tadeusz Rupiewicz. Another cultural highlight is Michał Ostoja-Lniski’s wooden sculpture gallery. The history of water management includes a meadow irrigation system and a canal on the Wda built in 1848. These features complement the destination’s active side with art, religious depictions and a structure with a specified year of construction.
Getting there and planning your trip
National road 22 and the Tczew–Piła railway line run through Czarna Woda. National road 22 was formerly called “Berlinka” and connected Berlin with Königsberg. The railway station is also a useful reference point for planning your trip: the yellow Kociewski Trail ends there, while the green Stone Circles Trail begins there.
