Darżlubie retains the form of an elongated village arranged around a central pond; the road to Puck runs through the village.

History

The oldest surviving records of Darżlubie date from 1296 and 1300. From 1827 to 1973, the village was the seat of a forestry office, initially royal and later state-run.

The Puszcza Darżlubska in the wider area around Darżlubie is associated with the martyrdom of Polish and Jewish people during the Second World War and was the site of mass murders of Polish civilians during the Second World War.

Nature

The wider regional surroundings of Darżlubie include the Puszcza Darżlubska protected landscape area. It encompasses large parts of Kępa Pucka, the Piaśnica sandur and the trough of Lake Dobrego.

In the wider area around Darżlubie, Puszcza Darżlubska is a forest complex on the Baltic Sea in the geographical region of Pobrzeże Kaszubskie. It contains two nature reserves and is the source of the Piaśnica and Gizdepka rivers.

The Church of Saints James and Nicholas in Mechowo is located 3½ km west of Darżlubie. The Groty Mechowskie cave is located 3 km west of Darżlubie, as is the Darżlubskie Buki nature reserve.

The “Darżlubskie Buki” nature reserve protects a natural part of the former Puszcza Darżlubska forest. It covers 28.90 hectares of 160-year-old beech, pine and oak forest.

Trails

Bus route 649 connects Brudzewo, Celbowo, Połczyno and Darżlubie. The green Wejherowo–Darżlubie cycling route is designated as a cycle touring trail. The Grot Mechowskich hiking trail runs along Leśników Street, passing the former forestry office.
