The Madonna and the History of Pilgrimage
The church in Sianowo houses a Madonna figure dating from the 15th century. In 1966, she was crowned Queen of Kashubia. The figure continues to be venerated by Kashubian residents; many pilgrims also come from Poland and abroad. The Madonna is therefore a central reference point in the town’s religious history.
An early historical record dates back to 1480: a document from that year granted all the faithful a special indulgence for a pilgrimage to Sianowo to visit the “Łaskawa Figura.” The veneration of the Madonna thus has a long history documented over time. The sanctuary’s more recent building is also relevant to understanding its history: the sanctuary church was built in 1816.
A dated event from more recent times took place on July 20, 2025. On that day, the annual Great Indulgence was celebrated at the sanctuary, associated with the veneration of Our Lady of the Scapular. The date refers to this specific event.
Cycling on Two Routes
The green cycling route runs from Kartuzy via Łapalice, Lake Białe, and Pomieczyńska Huta to Sianowo. It is 26.5 kilometers long, with an estimated riding time of about two hours and 40 minutes.
