Kartuzy: Hotels and Accommodation

In Kartuzy, the former Carthusian monastery complex includes the monumental monastery church, known as the Collegiate Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which has an original coffin-lid-shaped roof. The monastery church is one of the most valuable monuments in Pomerania.

Culture and History

The Carthusians arrived in the area in 1381 and began building the monastery under the first prior. The former complex includes farm buildings, a hermitage formerly used as monks’ cells, and a refectory that has housed a contemporary art gallery since 1995.

The Franciszek Treder Kashubian Museum in Kartuzy presents the history and ethnography of the region and displays extensive ethnographic collections. The Kashubian language and culture are regarded as important components of the character of the place.

More than half of the Kartuzy municipality is covered by forests, while a further five percent consists of lakes.
