Chojnice has a historic old town regarded as attractive and charming. The townscape retains medieval urban buildings and numerous historic monuments.

Culture and History

The town hall stands on the northern side of the market square and is regarded as the neo-Gothic center of the city as well as a neo-Gothic landmark. The Minor Basilica of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist is considered the oldest surviving sacred building in Chojnice.

One church tower is among the surviving towers and gates of the former city walls; another tower houses the Historical-Ethnographic Museum. The aurochs occupies a place of honor in Chojnice’s coat of arms and symbolizes the strength and history of the city.
