Historic Buildings and Exhibitions

The historic old town of Chojnice includes townhouses, the market square, the neo-Gothic town hall and a fountain. One distinctive landmark is the Człuchów Gate: this historic building has a square floor plan, six storeys and is designed in the Pomeranian Gothic style. The Człuchów Gate houses exhibition rooms belonging to the Historical and Ethnographic Museum. The museum presents permanent and changing themed exhibitions across five floors. Those interested in culture and urban history will find a different focus here than out in the landscape park.

The Historical and Ethnographic Museum is also located in six historic buildings along a preserved section of Chojnice's medieval defensive walls. The buildings and the stretch of wall give a museum visit its own historic setting. Another of the city's notable churches is the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It has three naves, a façade with two towers, and a late Baroque interior with polychrome paintings by Franciszek Ksawery Haefflich. The Jesuits built the church and also founded a school in Chojnice. Another church, dedicated to the Beheading of St John the Baptist, was elevated to the status of a minor basilica on 11 March 1993.

Landscape Park, Lakes and Waterways

Zaborski Landscape Park lies in the northern part of Chojnice County and extends across the municipalities of Brusy, Chojnice and Konarzyny. It includes 48 lakes, among them protected, exceptionally clear Lobelia and stonewort lakes. A dense network of hiking trails, cycling paths and nature trails provides access to the landscape. This variety makes nature experiences a distinct alternative to the city's cultural focus.

There are also different river names and routes to explore on the water: the Brda and its tributaries, the Chocina, Zbrzyca, Młosina and Kłonecznica, form a network of varied kayaking routes in the landscape park. Those who prefer to travel on foot can follow the 55-kilometre Julian Rydzkowski Kashubian Hiking Trail. It runs from Chojnice via Chojniczki, Bachorze, Stara Piła, Męcikał and Giełdon to Wiele. Its length and route provide concrete points of reference when choosing your own hike.

Cycling Routes and City Festival

Two more routes are described for cyclists. Kaszubska Marszruta is a network of cycling paths in Chojnice County, with around 200 kilometres of completed routes. Another cycling route, 166 kilometres long, runs from Bydgoszcz via Rytel, Mylof, Drzewicz, Swornegacie and Bachorze to Chojnice. Kaszubska Marszruta describes a network of routes in the county, while the longer route links a specific sequence of named places. Depending on whether you are interested in a regional network or a longer route, you will see the trip from a different perspective.

A recurring event in the city's calendar is Dni Chojnic, an annual city festival held in Tysiąclecia Park and at the Town Moat. If you want to plan your visit around it, check the dates separately. Places in the Destination

In addition to Chojnice, the destination includes Męcikał, Brusy, Swornegacie, Charzykowy, Rytel, Chojnice, Leśno, Czersk, Olszyny, Pawłowo, Krzyż, Konarzyny and Parszczenica. The main road axis of Chojnice County is National Road 22, which connects Chojnice and Czersk; the regional roads radiate out from Chojnice. This orientation complements the choice between urban history, nature and active tours without treating the places or offerings as interchangeable.
