Treimani: Churches, Museum and Coastal Hiking Trail

Churches and regional history

The Lutheran church in Treimani was consecrated on 21 September 1867. Historically, it was also known as the Orajõe prayer house. It is the oldest continuously operating church in Häädemeeste Rural Municipality. A distinctive detail of its interior is the altarpiece: it depicts Christ walking on the water and holding Peter by the hand. Thus, in addition to its construction date, the church has a clearly recognisable visual character.

Another important sight is the Orthodox church in Treimani. It was completed in 1935 and designed by the architect Märt Merivälja. Its national romantic character is expressed in the hipped roof and the small round tent-roof tower on the roof ridge. The originally planned onion-shaped tower was not built at the request of the local population. This deviation is part of the documented building history and also makes the church architecturally interesting. It is listed as an immovable monument under registration number 16645.

The Treimani Museum displays old tools and objects from the fishing village. For visitors who would like to get to know the place not only through its coast but also through its former way of life and work, this collection complements the two churches with a perspective on everyday history.

Coast, landscape and orientation

Treimani is part of the 135.6-hectare Kivikupitsa landscape protection area. The protected-area aspect stands alongside the coastal hiking trail as a separate natural feature. Tourist orientation is also established in the village. In 2005, the Treimani library was converted into a library as well as a tourist information and visitor centre. The Treimani information point is one of the four most important tourist information points in Häädemeeste Rural Municipality. In addition to the Treimani community centre, a rest area and an information board were also established. These facilities mark documented points of orientation, without allowing any further statements to be made about opening hours or current services.
