Leina: Cross-country skiing, cycling trails and sledding hills in Jõulumäe
In the village of Leina, Jõulumäe’s natural cross-country ski trails offer four route lengths: 3 kilometres, 5 kilometres, 7.5 kilometres and 10 kilometres. This allows you to choose a winter route according to your preferred distance without conflating different offerings. The trails run through gently hilly terrain. At the junctions, permanently installed colour-coded posts and direction signs help with orientation.
Cross-country skiing, cycling and forest trails
Jõulumäe combines several active pursuits in a clearly defined natural setting. There are two permanently marked routes for mountain biking. Both start at the main stadium and lead through hilly woodland. In addition, a five-metre-wide, surfaced cycling path runs through Jõulumäe’s pine forest. These two details refer to different ways of travelling through the forest: the mountain-bike routes are marked trails starting at the main stadium, while the surfaced cycling path is characterised by its width and its route through the pine forest.
The network of paths also extends beyond the sports centre for those travelling on foot. The longest hiking trail in the Jõulumäe Sports Centre leads to the Rannametsa-Tolkuse nature trail. Those who do not want to limit their stay to a short loop in the sports centre can include the nature trail as an additional hiking destination.
Sledding hills for different abilities
In winter, Jõulumäe’s sledding hill complements the ski trails and paths with three downhill slopes. Two of them are gentler and intended for smaller children. The third slope is steeper and aimed at more experienced sledders. Those travelling with children or wanting to accommodate different levels of sledding experience within a group can take this division into account when choosing a slope. There is also a slope with artificial snow that is lit in the evenings. This slope therefore differs explicitly from the other downhill slopes described through its artificial snow cover and evening lighting.
Getting to the entrance of the recreation sports centre
For the connection from Pärnu, county bus route 76 runs daily from Pärnu Bus Station to a stop at the entrance to the Jõulumäe Recreation Sports Centre. Those who want to reach the area without travelling by car can therefore take the connection from Pärnu Bus Station to the centre’s entrance into account when planning their journey.
When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Leina, Jõulumäe is primarily relevant as a reference point for cross-country skiing, cycling, hiking and sledding. The documented routes differ in length, surface, terrain and use: natural ski trails from 3 to 10 kilometres, marked mountain-bike routes starting at the main stadium, a five-metre-wide surfaced cycling path through the pine forest, a longer hiking trail leading to the Rannametsa-Tolkuse nature trail, and three sledding hills with different gradients.
