Nature and trails
More than 230 bird species have been observed in the Svensksundsviken nature reserve. Trails covering a total of around 1.5 kilometres lead to a lookout hill or a birdwatching tower; the trail to the birdwatching tower runs along boardwalks. The nature reserve can be reached by bus from Norrköping, Östra Husby or Arkösund.
A hiking trail just over four kilometres long begins on the mainland in the Bråviken nature reserve. The islands in the reserve can be reached by private boat or kayak. The Norrkrog nature reserve is located nearby. There, a marked hiking trail of around three kilometres begins at the car park at Stegeborgsgården, offering views of Slätbaken and Eknön. Old pines and oaks grow on steep slopes; the high-level trails offer views of Stegeborg and Slätbaken.
History and churches
Stegeborg Castle Ruins were one of Sweden’s most important fortifications in the Middle Ages and a royal castle until the 17th century. The site is open to visitors every day throughout the year: it can be explored freely, and visitors can also see the round castle tower, the surrounding park and the herb garden by the water. Dalmyra mine is an old mine in a scenic location on Vikbolandet that was probably already known in the Middle Ages.
The church surroundings of Dagsberg Church are an essential part of the area of national interest at Dagsberg. Furingstad Church has 15th-century wall paintings depicting scenes from the life of Mary and her Assumption. It is also the municipality’s only completely preserved medieval church.
Konungsund Church was built in 1801–1802 as a replacement for the medieval church and designed by Olof Tempelman. A Romanesque granite baptismal font from the 13th century is preserved there from the medieval church. Kuddby Church is a typical 19th-century church that is visible from far away across the agricultural landscape. Tåby Church dates from the 18th century and stands in a church village. Östra Stenby Church is characterised by the numerous manor houses that were located in the parish. Västra Vikbolandet Parish shows visitors its seven churches and provides information about services and other activities in a calendar.
