Falerum: Accommodation for hiking trails and industrial heritage
Accommodation in Falerum
Falerum in the municipality of Åtvidaberg in Östergötland combines hiking trails with traces of historic trades along the Storån. Those looking for a hotel, holiday apartment or holiday home can plan their stay around a summit loop, the swimming area or a visit focused on cultural history. The different destinations do not all require the same amount of time.
Loop trail to Seboklint or a leg starting at the travel centre?
The Seboklint loop leads from the town up the mountain of the same name and is about five kilometres long. It is therefore a named loop trail destination. The Falerum–Åtvidaberg leg of the Östgötaleden, by contrast, starts at Falerum travel centre. After about one kilometre, it crosses the Storån and then follows a gravel track towards Gärdserum.
On the leg towards Rumma, there is another choice between the main trail up to the Dacke Skans hillfort and the asphalt road towards Rumma. Before setting out, check which route matches your plans; the loop trail, hiking leg and road option should not be taken to mean the same route.
Dacke Skans and the landscape of Uknadalen
Dacke Skans comprises the remains of an old fortification on Dackeberget, south of Falerum. The Östgötaleden describes the distance from the town as about 600 metres. From the mountain, there are views of Falerum, Uknadalen and Åkervristen. This is an archaeological site with a view, not an intact castle.
Here, the Storån is protected as part of the Storån vid Falerum Natura 2000 site and lies within the Uknadalen area of national interest. For a different nature outing, the Ekhultebergen nature reserve is about one kilometre from Falerum on the road towards Hannäs. Protected status and proximity to the town do not give blanket permission to use any land outside the designated access points.
The swimming area and the former tannery
Falerum swimming area has a bathing jetty, changing rooms and a barbecue area. The accessible dry toilet is open in summer. The site offers views across Uknadalen and Åkervristen. The stated accessibility adaptation applies to the toilet and does not automatically mean that the entire swimming area is accessible.
Wiaholms Garvaregård dates back to the 1740s. At its original location, the tannery museum explains how raw hides were processed into leather. The farm is also a private residence. Check the actual visiting arrangements before planning a museum visit, and do not treat the site as freely accessible at all times.
Discover history and choose accommodation
The Mariedal paper mill was established in 1815 in the upper industrial area; an information board in the northern part of town explains its industrial heritage. These historical details do not indicate that a paper mill is currently operating there with public tours of the production facilities.
Compare the accommodation address with your chosen hiking starting point, swimming area or arranged museum visit. The confirmed services included in the offer remain decisive; excursions and admission are not automatically included with an overnight stay in Falerum.
