Brædstrup – Trails, Ring Sø and History
Accommodation in Brædstrup
Brædstrup lies in the hilly Søhøjlandet. When planning a trip, marked trails, nature on the edge of town and historical themes come together here. You can plan your stay around whether hiking, cycling, an excursion to the lake, or architectural and cultural history is your main interest. The route lengths also vary considerably: the “Ro i naturen” route is 1.2 kilometres long, while the Naturstien Horsens-Silkeborg measures 61 kilometres. This range offers different possibilities for planning your day.
Hiking around Brædstrup
The town-edge forest Ring Skov borders Brædstrup and offers marked hiking routes. Five marked routes there are between 2 and 3.8 kilometres long. Visitors should stay on the paths in Ring Skov. A longer option is the signposted Hjertestien: It measures 5.7 kilometres and passes through Brædstrup and the natural areas on the edge of town. If you plan by route length, you can distinguish shorter paths in the forest from a longer route that also passes through town.
Ring Sø and the “Ro i naturen” route
On the edge of Brædstrup lies Ring Sø, a swimming lake with a beach and bathing jetty. A roughly 3-kilometre-long footpath goes all the way around the lake. This route offers a different kind of excursion from the marked forest paths: it circles the lake, while Ring Skov has several routes to choose from. In March 2026, an official warning advised against swimming because of blue-green algae. Check the current conditions before swimming.
The 1.2-kilometre “Ro i naturen” route adds eight stations with mindfulness and yoga exercises to the range of trails. It starts in a park by a lake. It is considerably shorter than the route around Ring Sø; the stations offer a distinct focus along the way. This lets you choose between the short exercise stations, the lake circuit and the marked forest paths according to your interests.
Architectural history and culture
Brædstrup Kirke was built in 1941. Tinghuset dates from 1919 and has been preserved with its original fittings. Klovenhøj opens up a much older period: The burial mound probably dates from the Bronze Age (1,700–500 BC), and a staircase leads to its summit. Its probable date is far earlier than the construction dates of the church and Tinghuset. Another cultural highlight is the troll Jensnej, who came to Brædstrup in 2023. It was created by artist Thomas Dambo.
Cycling on the Naturstien
The popular Naturstien Horsens-Silkeborg cycling and hiking route runs along Folkeparken and the activity park. The route is 61 kilometres long and is particularly suitable for cyclists. It is therefore on a different scale from the walking routes described here and offers a distinct travel and activity focus. When choosing Brædstrup, you can weigh up marked hiking trails, excursions by the lake, cultural sites and a longer cycling route.
