The northern part of the Altenpleen administrative district is part of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. The islands of Bock and Großer Werder are located near Preetz and within the Altenpleen administrative district.

The lagoon landscape is regarded as an area with characteristic scenery and a diverse range of flora and fauna. The migration of cranes is considered a remarkable wildlife spectacle there. At Lake Günz, the KRANORAMA offers observation opportunities overlooking the Günzer Wiesen meadows.

Cycle Route and Coast

The coastal cycle route follows the coast of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area and passes the harbours of Nisdorf and Barhöft. In Barhöft, an observation tower offers expansive coastal views towards Rügen; the Haus am Kliff National Park exhibition and the Grüne Kliffkunst open-air gallery are located nearby.

Geographical Location

Preetz is one of six municipalities in the Altenpleen administrative district in Western Pomerania-Rügen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The same municipal division also includes Altenpleen, Groß Mohrdorf, Klausdorf, Kramerhof and Prohn.
