Construction of the village church of St. Mary began around 1280/90 as a brick building. Inside, highly colorful, partly narrative wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries have been preserved. Other notable architectural features include Early Gothic window tracery and a series of niches in the choir’s surrounding walls.
The medieval sacristy extension is also remarkable. Its vault is made of an extremely rare type of ribbed molded brick. Together with the single-nave church hall, west tower, and preserved wall paintings, it gives a multifaceted picture of the building. The Neu Boltenhagen cultural center is the hub of village life in the municipality of Neu Boltenhagen. The history of the estate is a separate matter: the Wakenitz family acquired the Neu Boltenhagen estate from the Duke of Pomerania in 1625. In the village, the Bodden Tour turns right toward Karbow. The surface changes several times along the next section: first a paved slab path, then asphalt, and then through the forest.
