Neu Sallenthin: Lakes, Trails and Seven-Lakes View

Neu Sallenthin is situated on Ice Age moraine slopes that extend down to Großer Krebssee. The village is immediately surrounded by Gothensee, Kleiner Krebssee and Großer Krebssee. Together, the three lakes and the moraine slopes define the immediate landscape. Anyone exploring the area on foot or by bicycle therefore experiences not only the lakes but also the rising slopes as part of the same landscape. This setting makes the lakes an obvious point of reference when choosing a stay focused on nature experiences, walks or cycling tours.

The Seven-Lakes View as a distinctive destination

Just beyond Neu Sallenthin, the 40-metre-high Seven-Lakes View observation tower stands at the edge of a field. It is located between Bansin Dorf and Neu Sallenthin and offers views across the so-called Usedom Switzerland with its seven lakes. From the observation tower in Sallenthin, you can also catch glimpses of Gothensee, Krebssee, Schmollensee and Achterwasser, as well as the lagoon, Kachliner See and the Baltic Sea. The location at the edge of the field provides a clear reference point for the view. The perspective extends from the immediate surroundings across Usedom Switzerland to other bodies of water in the landscape. In this way, the observation point connects the immediate surroundings of Neu Sallenthin with a broader view of the landscape.

Hiking and cycling in Usedom Switzerland

Usedom Switzerland can be explored on hikes and cycling tours. The Seven-Lakes View observation tower is a recommended place to take a break. A circular trail runs through woodland and meadows in the area around the Kleiner Krebssee nature reserve. This trail complements the observation point with a route that focuses not on the distant view but on the changing landscapes. The circular trail thus provides a distinct focus alongside the tower: the different landscapes follow one another along the route, while the observation point brings the view across the surroundings together.

There are also various landscape reference points for cycling tours. The guided cycling tour “Around Schmollensee – Seven-Lakes View Tour” leads to the Seven-Lakes View in Neu Sallenthin. The Usedom Lakes Tour runs along Gothensee, Krebssee, Schmollensee and Achterwasser. On the road from Ulrichshorst to Reetzow and onwards to the crossroads, the surface is almost entirely asphalt. The guided tour links the destination at the tower with the theme of Schmollensee, while the Lakes Tour incorporates several bodies of water into its route. The asphalt road section additionally describes the surface of a connection via Ulrichshorst and Reetzow to the crossroads. When choosing a route, the viewpoint, bodies of water and road surface can therefore be considered as different points of reference.

Local history and literary connection

Neu Sallenthin also has a documented historical and literary connection. The village was founded on the basis of a decree issued by the Royal Prussian Government in Stettin in February 1818. Hans Werner Richter was born in Neu Sallenthin on 12 November 1908. He was a German writer and the initiator of “Group 47”.
