Schmatzin is characterized by a flat agricultural landscape with fields and meadows; only small areas of woodland interrupt the open scenery. The municipality also includes small kettle holes and ponds, as well as marshland areas in the south. Fuchsberg and Ulanenberg are located nearby.
Culture and History
In Schmatzin, a local cultural association works together with the municipality and members of the community to organize cultural celebrations. The town’s history also includes a connection with the County of Gützkow in the early Middle Ages. Until the beginning of the 17th century, it was additionally part of the Gützkow bailiwick.
Several named attractions are located near Schmatzin: Quilow Water Castle, the Trabbi Barn, St. Mary Magdalene Church in Schlatkow, Quilow Village Church, and the Schlatkow orchard meadow. The Wolgast Zoo is located farther away in the surrounding region.

Schmatzin is located approximately six kilometers south of Züssow and approximately ten kilometers east of Gützkow.
