The arrangement of the buildings also tells the story of the village’s historic layout: the farmers were settled on the side facing the Szczecin Lagoon. On the side opposite the farmsteads stand simple country houses, which were originally all thatched. The farmsteads and country houses thus offer different insights into the settlement pattern, without requiring you to follow a particular route.
Other notable features include two- and three-sided farmsteads and a residential house with an onion dome. These different building types add to the picture of a village whose distinctive qualities lie not only in individual historic buildings, but also in the arrangement and variety of its buildings. Church and Local History Room
Leopoldshagen’s half-timbered church was built between 1753 and 1755 and has a narrower west tower. Its construction date and half-timbered design give it a clearly defined historic character. Another point of interest for local history is the Leopoldshagen Local History Room. It was established in 1993 and has been housed, since six years after its founding, in a motor mill built around 1920. Together, these places reveal different aspects of Leopoldshagen’s built and local history.
