Eggesin between moorland, harbor and local history

Moorland landscape and circular trail at Lake Eggesin

At about 90 hectares, Lake Eggesin is largely still a very wet, infilling bog. Its landscape features include reed beds, swamp forests, small areas of floating vegetation and species-rich wet meadows. The area is designated both a Special Area of Conservation under the EU Habitats Directive and a Special Protection Area for birds. This combination of different wetland habitats gives the nature experience at the lake a clear focus.

The circular trail around Lake Eggesin is about 11.5 kilometers long. It starts on a field path between the Schüler-Jugend-Zentrum and the Haus der Geborgenheit care home on Stettiner Straße, and is signposted from there. The approximate trail length helps you gauge the size of the circuit in advance. Along the way, information panels describe the animals that live there, rare protected plants and the different types of trees. This lets you explore the landscape alongside its individual natural features.

Water activities at the harbor and along the Randow

The waterway rest area on the Randow in Eggesin offers plenty of mooring options right by the river and in a sheltered bay. Canoes, pedal boats and fishing boats can be rented at Eggesin harbor; tours on the Randow raft are also offered from there. This gives you a choice of different water activities: rent a boat or take a raft tour. If a particular rental or tour is important to your stay, it is a good idea to check dates and availability in advance.

Local history, barge boating and arts and crafts

The Eggesin local history museum offers insights into the village and town’s history through exhibits, written documents and photographs. Other topics include the timber and brick industries, barge boating and Eggesin as a garrison town. The barge boat center on the Randow focuses specifically on the traditions and history of barge boating on the Szczecin Lagoon. The two venues have different focuses: one explores the broader history of the town, while the other highlights its maritime tradition.

At Eggesin station, the visitor and information center for the Am Stettiner Haff Nature Park features a modern exhibition about the nature park’s distinctive natural environment. The KulturWerkstatt Eggesin complements these themes with arts and crafts: visitors can watch artists and craftspeople at work. During KUNST:OFFEN, visitors are welcome to look around and take part. The natural environment exhibition, historical insights and a glimpse into the work of artists and craftspeople offer a range of cultural points of interest.

Blueberries and local offerings

The Eggesin Blueberry Barn next to the town hall was rebuilt in 2006. It welcomes visitors and provides information about blueberries. There is also a seasonally changing snack menu, for example, herb bratwurst and yeast dumplings with blueberries, as well as coffee and homemade baked goods. Since the offerings may vary by season, it is worth checking the selection before planning a visit specifically for this purpose.

The Schlemmermeile food street offers regional specialties such as homemade blueberry cake and game. The Pomeranian Farmers’ Market has a different focus, selling natural products and arts and crafts. When planning a visit to the Schlemmermeile, keep in mind that event details may change.
