Location between the Warnow Valley and the Mühlbach
Rukieten lies between the Warnow Valley and the Mühlbach, about six kilometers southeast of Schwaan on the road to Güstrow. The Galgenberg and Fuchsberg hills are located nearby; the surrounding area also includes the Bullenberg.
History and Name
Rukieten was first recorded in 1306 under the name “Rukitne.” The name Rukieten means “sea buckthorn” and comes from the Polish word “rokitnik.” Göldenitz, a part of the municipality of Rukieten, was first documented in 1259.

The surrounding area of Rukieten is home to Güstrow Castle and Bützow Castle. The Wildpark Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is also located there. In the wider regional area are Dornbusch and the Thünen Museum.
