Vorbeck: Cycling and Hiking Tours and the Municipality’s History

Tour 3 is about 13 kilometres long. It runs from Schwaan via Vorbeck, the Letschower Tannen and Letschow, and back to Schwaan. Tour 4 covers about 23 kilometres and runs from Schwaan via Vorbeck, Kambs, Kassow, Neu Kassow, Mistorf, Rukieten and Göldenitz, and back. Comparing the two routes reveals a difference of around ten kilometres; Tour 4 also passes through more places. Both are regional cycling and hiking tours.

Church and Architectural History in Kambs

For culture and architectural history, head to Kambs, a village in the municipality of Vorbeck. The Gothic brick church is surrounded by a well-preserved stone wall. A Gothic entrance hall was added to the south side of the chancel in the 15th century. The late Gothic altarpiece dates from the 15th century. In the centre, it depicts Saint Mary with the Christ Child on a crescent moon, surrounded by a halo of rays. Moses and the prophet Ezekiel are also depicted. The twelve apostles and twelve other saints appear in two rows on either side. The imagery can be read from the central Marian motif to the rows of figures on both sides. The church once had the oldest pulpit in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Regular services and events are held at Kambs village church. A visit can be arranged after contacting Pastor Jungmann in Schwaan; check whether visits are currently possible before you go. On the edge of the churchyard is the Lübcke family burial site, built in 1845 by A. G. Lübcke. Kambs is also home to a rectory built around 1860. A former manor house with a park dating from 1923 is also located in the village; the manor house and park are privately owned.

The Warnow and Activities in the Municipality

Near Kambs in the municipality of Vorbeck, you can cross the Warnow in the direction of Kassow. Paddling boats can be launched on the right-hand side beyond the Kambs bridge. There is a place to rest by the Warnow near Kambs; fishing and water touring are also possible there. Local conditions apply to fishing, so check the current requirements before setting out. For water tours, it is advisable to check local water and access conditions in advance.
