The Island Museum presents a regionally focused collection on the natural and regional history of Poel Island in a 250-square-meter museum space.
Culture and History
The museum documents the regional history of Poel and presents around 350 objects in 26 display cases as well as as freestanding exhibits. The concluding sections are dedicated to agricultural development, the breeder Hans Lembke, fishing, boatbuilding, and the island’s tourism development.
The museum gallery presents a changing thematic annual exhibition featuring works by the Mecklenburg painter Karl Christian Klasen. In Kirchdorf on Poel Island, a large fortification complex existed until the 18th century.
