Thandorf is a small municipality in Northwest Mecklenburg with 160 inhabitants. The village has the character of an established farming community and stands out for its large thatched-roof houses.

History
The documented history of Thandorf dates back to 1292; that year, the village was first mentioned as part of the Diocese of Ratzeburg. Like the villages in the former restricted zone of the GDR, Thandorf shares a complex recent history spanning the period from 1949 to 1990.
