Userin on Lake Userin: Water, Trails and a Half-Timbered Church

If you want to consider water, landscape and trails together when choosing a destination, Userin offers several points of interest: Lake Userin, a bathing area and a section of the pilgrimage route. There is also the small half-timbered church, with its own history. Depending on your interests, you can plan your stay by the shore, along a trail or with a look at the local architectural history.

Lake Userin and its shores
Lake Userin lies on the eastern shore of Userin and is part of MĂĽritz National Park. It is about four kilometres long and one kilometre wide.
There is a bathing area on Lake Userin within Userin. It was redesigned in 2013 and has an extensive non-swimmer area. Fishing in the lake is subject to separate rules: within Userin, fishing is permitted from a boat, from existing built structures and at open stretches of shore.
Half-timbered church and pilgrimage route
The small church in Userin stands on a hill and is built in the half-timbered style. It was consecrated in 1778. The church also has a free-standing bell tower; the bronze bell inside dates from 1747. The church invites visitors to pause and pray, and is described as a venue for concerts.
Userin’s half-timbered church serves as a landmark for the Userin–Wesenberg section of the pilgrimage route. This section is about 12.5 kilometres long and leads from Userin’s half-timbered church along the paved Groß Quassower Weg towards Groß Quassow. The route is marked with an M. A hiking trail along Lake Userin can also be chosen as an approach for the pilgrimage route to Userin.
Mecklenburg Lake District: Nature and longer excursions
MĂĽritz National Park is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District. Its landscape is characterised by forests, moors, lakes and broad meadows. The MĂĽritz National Park Hiking Trail explores this landscape over nine stages: it follows lakeshores, passes through ancient forests and by inland dunes, and leads to the source of the Havel. In the Mecklenburg Lake District, waterway travellers can explore MĂĽritz National Park and the Strelitz Small Lakes from Neustrelitz city harbour via the Upper Havel Waterway.
Guided nature excursions are another regional option: certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through MĂĽritz National Park. These include tours in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and trips from the water.
Another nature destination in the Mecklenburg Lake District is the Damerower Werder European bison reserve. It lies on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin and within Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe European bison there. The reserve also has a forest adventure trail with climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with tactile and visual displays, and a dendrophone.
