Kratzeburg is situated in a landscape of lakes and forests and in the western part of Müritz National Park. The Havel rises near Ankershagen north of Kratzeburg and flows through several lakes, including Lake Käbelick. The route of the Upper Havel Waterway also begins in Kratzeburg.
Nature and Landscape
The Bäverberg and Schäferberg hills are located in the immediate vicinity of Kratzeburg. The surrounding area also includes Strelitzer Berg and Papenberg. The Pieverstorf Hills lie southeast of Pieverstorf and reach heights of up to 105 metres above sea level.
Culture and History
Kratzeburg and its associated villages include historic buildings in the Mecklenburg Lake District that are protected as heritage sites. The wider regional area also includes Wildberg, the village church in Kittendorf, St. George's Church in Neubrandenburg, and Kirch Poppentin.
