Zapel is located approximately three kilometers southeast of Crivitz and approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Parchim.
Landscape
In the southern part of the municipality, Zapel includes the Settiner Tannen forest, where the Gramnitzbach stream rises. The highest point in the municipality is 67.8 meters above sea level.
The hills Großer Lindenberg and Sötenbarg are located in the immediate vicinity of Zapel. The islands of Flakenwerder and Kaninchenwerder are also located in the surrounding area of Zapel.
Culture
