From May to October, Kultur.Kirche.Recknitz offers a recurring program on the weekend of the first Sunday of each month, with concerts, workshops, theater, cinema, and “Time Out” events. During the 2026 season in Recknitz, Marianne Kindt exhibited her works on the theme “Light – from a golden ground to daylight” in the church. The paintings were on view throughout the season, until October 2026. The title leads from a golden ground to daylight, creating a distinctive artistic accent alongside the season’s events.

Historic Buildings in Plaaz and the Municipality’s Villages

The district register of historic monuments, as of May 14, 2024, lists a half-timbered house at Dorfstraße 6 and the former post office at Dorfstraße 50 in Plaaz as historic buildings. The two entries represent different building types and former uses: a half-timbered home and a former post office.

Recknitz also has listed historic landmarks. St. Bartholomew’s Church has stood there since the mid-13th century and is listed as a historic building. The cemetery with its mausoleum, the von Buch family graves, and the cemetery wall is also listed as a historic building.

Further examples are spread across other villages in the municipality: in Spoitgendorf, a manor house with a park is listed as a historic building. In Zapkendorf, a stable building and an agricultural building are part of the listed manor complex; a manor house is also part of the complex. Wendorf adds a round barn listed as a historic building. The listings therefore differ not only by location, but also by building type and how each is integrated into a complex.

A prehistoric landmark lies in the direction of Diekhof: there you will find a remarkable Bronze Age megalithic tomb. Together with St. Bartholomew’s Church, it spans a broad period of history—from the Bronze Age tomb to a building that has stood in Recknitz since the mid-13th century.

The broader travel destination of Rostock offers a distinct coastal perspective. The Rostock region is bordered by 62 kilometers of Baltic Sea coastline, with a number of seaside resorts. Its coastal hinterland includes the picturesque river valleys of the Warnow and the Recknitz.
