The landscape around Hohen Sprenz is characterized by a hilly ground moraine landscape bordered by the glacial meltwater valleys of the Warnow and Recknitz rivers. The Galgenberg, Fuchsberg and Peperbarg hills are located in the surrounding area.

Waterways and Location

Hohen Sprenz includes the approximately 2 km² Hohen Sprenzer See and the smaller Papensee. The Mühlbach flows through the area; it drains southwards into the Nebel. Hohen Sprenz and the villages of Dudinghausen, Klein Sprenz and Woland are grouped around Lake Hohen Sprenz.

Hohen Sprenz is located between Schwaan and Laage, approximately 22 km from Rostock.

Culture and History

Güstrow Castle is located in the area surrounding Hohen Sprenz. In the wider regional surroundings are Dornbusch, Bützow Castle and the Thünen Museum. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Wildlife Park is also located in the surrounding area.

Hohen Sprenz was first mentioned in historical documents in 1270; its church had already stood for almost 50 years at that time.
