The Heinrich Schliemann Memorial commemorates the archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, who was born in Neubukow in 1822. His birthplace provides a direct link to the city’s history. In Sternberger Seenland Nature Park, the landscape is shaped by deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, picturesque hills and extensive forests; the nature park is especially suited to hiking and cycling. Visitors can explore Wildpark-MV independently or join guided walks, including wolf, owl and evening walks. The Kletter- und Erlebniswald Schwaan adds to the region’s attractions with seven courses for children, beginners and advanced climbers. Its 116.5-metre Flying Fox zip line runs directly over the lake. These examples showcase different activities in the wider Rostock destination without conflating them with Neubukow’s local attractions.
The area also has attractions for those interested in cultural history: the Wolhynier Umsiedlermuseum in Linstow offers tours for groups and individuals. Using ethnographic objects, photographs and documents, the tours trace the history of the Volhynian Germans from the mid-19th century to their resettlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War. In Güstrow, the theatre is Mecklenburg’s oldest surviving civic theatre. The Molli narrow-gauge railway runs between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan and is the oldest narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic coast. Its 900-millimetre track gauge has shaped the townscape on the Baltic coast since 1886.
