Mönchhagen is located on the eastern edge of Rostock in a predominantly flat landscape that drains toward the Breitling via the Peezer Bach. History

In 1252, Mönchhagen was mentioned in connection with the sale of the Rostock Heath. The history of the settlement thus dates back to the Middle Ages.
