Choosing green spaces and routes

Hjortespringkilen connects wooded areas and several lakes. Those travelling on foot or by bicycle will find a different kind of stay here than one centred on a cultural programme in the town centre. There are 2.4 kilometres of separate bridleways for riders; according to the official description, riders must bring their own horse. This requirement should not be confused with a generally bookable riding experience when planning your trip.

Within Hjortespringkilen, Smør- and Fedtmosen is botanically significant. The area serves as a breeding and resting ground for nearly 200 bird species. An ancient Stone Age settlement and a dugout canoe have also been found in Smørmosen. These different features make the area of interest to nature and history enthusiasts, though they do not guarantee any particular wildlife sightings on a given day. The municipality also lists Bakkegården Nature Park as another green option, with a meadow, lake and forest, as well as more than 500 plant species. The park is described as having a pavilion with room for a school class, a fire pit and toilets.

Art, music and film in Herlev

Gammelgaard presents three to four changing contemporary art exhibitions over the course of the year and also serves as a cultural centre with concerts, events and a café. Which exhibition suits your stay depends on the current programme. Herlev Teaterbio has its own film programme; no membership is required to attend screenings. Theatre performances are also held there from time to time. If you prefer architecture, Herlev Church is a late-medieval Gothic building. Its notable features include two wall paintings from the Isefjordsværkstedet workshop. The church also hosts concerts of early and contemporary music; check dates before your visit.

A recurring event, Herlev Festuge in Byparken adds activities and concerts for different age groups to the cultural offering. Its recurring nature does not provide a specific date or individual programme. Families may also find the Music Park, with instruments arranged for people to play together, a distinct attraction. These are different possible reasons to visit; they will not all necessarily take place during the same stay.

Combining accommodation and travel

Herlev Station is served in both directions by S-train lines C and H.
