In the vicinity of Lääneotsa lies the very old wreck of the Sancte Marcus, 350 m east of the coast of Laevakari; it is protected as an archaeological monument. Access to Laevakari depends on a specific natural condition: at low water levels, the island can be reached via the Kiburikari spit. At its end, a reef lying underwater extends to Laevakari. The low water level is therefore the prerequisite for access via Kiburikari; at the end of the spit, the reef lies underwater.
