Tågarp: Archaeological Traces and Nature
Accommodation in Tågarp
Two themes give Tågarp a clear focus for planning your trip: archaeological traces and nature in the surrounding Vinberg Nature Reserve. When planning your stay, you can decide whether prehistory or walking and activities along trails and waterways should take priority.
Archaeological Traces
The remains of a settlement from the Pre-Roman Iron Age are located at Tågarp 5:2. Twenty-two hearths were discovered in the archaeological investigation area of Tågarp 5:2. The dating places the settlement remains in time; the hearths are specific individual finds from the investigation area. The ancient monument L2023:846 may form the edge of a larger prehistoric settlement. Its further extent may lie to the north and northwest of the preliminary investigation area.
The findspot L2021:2546, interpreted as the remains of a ploughed-over burial mound, lies about 250 metres south of L2023:846. The prehistoric settlement L1996:253 is about 400 metres south of L2023:846. Both distances are measured from L2023:846.
The statements also differ in their status: the settlement remains and hearths are specific finds; L2021:2546 is interpreted as the remains of a burial mound, while the larger extent at L2023:846 remains a possibility. To understand the area’s prehistory, it is worth distinguishing between finds and interpretations.
Historical Names and Finds
Historical maps refer to the place as Rökelsehögsbacke and the land as Rökelsehög. The collection of the National Historical Museums lists Tågarp as the findspot of the archaeological find L1996:310; a thin-necked stone axe from Tågarp in Vinberg is also recorded. The historical names draw attention to how the place and land were named; museum records, by contrast, link Tågarp to a findspot and a specific object. Historical landscape names and material finds thus offer different ways of approaching the past.
Nature and Trails in Vinberg
Vinberg Nature Reserve, with open areas, deciduous forests, and flowing waterways, lies near Tågarp. These features bring different landscape types together in the same natural area. There is a 1.5-kilometre illuminated loop for jogging and walking. The Alslingan and Träskstigen nature trails run along the Vinån. When choosing a route, you can compare the information provided: the loop is described by its length and lighting, while the two trails are described by their course along the river. The stated length can help you factor a loop into your plans for the day.
The Vinån also offers good fishing opportunities in Vinberg Nature Reserve. Vinbergs golfklubb sells fishing permits for fishing in the river. If you want to plan your stay around the water, the Vinån is a shared point of reference for the nature trails and fishing; the illuminated loop offers a separate option for walking or jogging.
