Coast and nature around Glommen

Glommen combines maritime history with open coastal landscapes and unique nature experiences. Directly north of the town lies Glommens strand, a long sandy beach with low dunes. From Glommen, visitors can walk to this beach with its low sand dunes and shallow bathing water. There are parking facilities at both ends of Glommens strand; toilets are also available.

Immediately south of Glommen lies the Morups Tånge nature reserve, which is well known among birdwatchers. The surrounding area therefore offers a clear contrast between the accessible beach area to the north and a protected area to the south. In the Digesgård nature reserve, an open landscape, shallow shores and shallow sea areas shape the scenery. The open beach meadows there provide a habitat for birds and plants. The shallow shores and sea areas of Digesgård therefore differ specifically from the low dunes and bathing water at the beach.

Pannabohålan is also located in the Digesgård nature reserve. The site consists of three quarry ponds that were created when stone was extracted for the harbor of Glommen in the 1910s. The ponds thus make both an intervention in the landscape and part of the harbor’s history visible.

Lighthouse, fishing and Glumstenen

The Fyr- & Fiskemuseum presents the history of the Morups TÃ¥nge lighthouse and fishing in Glommen. The museum includes a small fishing hut with old fishing equipment. The museum is open in connection with public tours of the Morups TÃ¥nge lighthouse; those interested in the maritime past will therefore find a specific connection here between the history of the lighthouse and local fishing.

Glumstenen, a glacial erratic that served as a navigation marker, lies north of Glommen harbor. As a navigation marker, the boulder provided orientation on the water. In 1816, Sven Petter Bexell had the water level at that time carved into Glumstenen. The carved mark connects this function with a specific date in the history of the coast. In Hakon Hakonsson’s Saga, Glumsten is mentioned as a landing place and starting point for raids to the north and south in 1256. The stone is therefore both a prominent point of orientation and a historical testimony.

Fyrleden and the guest harbor

For active days, Fyrleden is an appealing option. It is an 8.5-kilometer cycling loop and at the same time an alternative route to Kattegattleden. The route leads to several noteworthy places in the area around Glommen. Red and white, easy-to-follow signs mark Fyrleden.

Glommen guest harbor complements the maritime character of the town. Overnight stays and walks among the jetties and boats are possible there. Those who want to get to know Glommen through its harbor and coastal side will find another specific place here alongside the beach, museum and protected areas.

Local event in spring and early summer

A seasonal highlight is Grymt Grymmare Glommen, a brewery project held since 2022 in spring and early summer. It features new types of beer and food trucks. The event adds a distinct accent alongside the permanently described landscape and historical sites and is part of Glommen’s local character without replacing the coastal or nature experiences.
