Langå: Historical Traces, Cycling Routes and Summer Events

Langå features historical traces, cycling routes and community summer events at several specific locations in the village and its surroundings. These include the sports field, Langå Church, the viaduct and rest areas in the village centre; nature experiences by the forest are within walking and cycling distance.

Summer events at the sports field

Sankt Hans is held every year at Langå’s sports field. In summer, communal meals with campfire cooking are organised there, and community pétanque evenings take place throughout the summer. Langå’s summer festival takes place in August and includes music and various activities for children and adults. During the summer season, community evening walks take place in the local area, and everyone is welcome to join. The sports field has a shelter and a covered barbecue area.

Cycling, rest and nature by the forest

A cycle path connects Langå with Øksendrup, Frørup and Ørbæk; from there, further connections lead to Herrested and Nyborg. Nature experiences by the forest are within walking and cycling distance. Green rest areas with tables and benches are located, among other places, near the church, at the assembly hall, by the village pond and at other locations in the village centre. Cyclists use them for coffee breaks and lunch. Langå also offers easy access to public transport. Cyclists can combine the connections from Langå via Øksendrup, Frørup and Ørbæk with a break at the green rest areas in the village centre.

Church, viaduct and local history

At the northern end of Langå, a railway bridge, a viaduct, was built in 1933. The artwork “Bykunst i Langå” adorns Langå’s old railway bridge. One motif depicts the excavation of the viaduct with a locomotive and a group of men holding spades. On both sides of the bridge, there is a hand welcoming visitors as they enter the village or waving to them as they leave. Langå Church was built around the year 1200. It houses the oldest church bell in the municipality; its frescoes are dated to the first half of the 16th century. Near Langå, a group of richly furnished graves was discovered; the finds included a bronze vessel made in Etruria. Langå has also preserved its historical “Vider og Vedtægter” from 1607.

A special shared meal event

At the special “Spis Sammen” gathering “Tarteletrunning”, host families prepare tartelettes for groups of six to eight people. The groups go from house to house and eat one tartelet at each host family’s home. The defining features are the change from house to house and the fixed group size.
