Coast: sandy beach and protected landscapes

Solrød Strand showcases its coast along a six-kilometre stretch at Solrød Strandpark. The coastal section consists largely of a wide sandy beach with dunes and child-friendly bathing areas. At the same time, parts of Solrød Strandpark are protected, meaning that the coastal area also includes protected natural spaces. The dunes are located directly beside the sandy beach, while the protected natural areas complement the park’s landscape. For a day at the beach, Strandpark can be planned as a coastal section in its own right; its length provides a clear spatial framework for time spent by the water. When staying by the water, visitors can observe the beach and dunes as distinct types of landscape.

Staunings Ø: sandbank, lagoon lakes and birdlife

Staunings Ø is a sandbank with a dune landscape of marram grass. The sandbank is part of Natura 2000 site no. 147, “Ølsemagle Strand and Staunings Ø”. Behind Staunings Ø lie lagoon lakes with extensive reed beds and a species-rich birdlife throughout the year. Several footbridges cross the lagoon lakes to Staunings Ø. The footbridges mark a specific route between the bodies of water and the sandbank. For nature enthusiasts, the birdlife at the lagoon lakes is not limited to a single season. Nature observation therefore brings together the dune landscape of Staunings Ø and the lagoon lakes’ species-rich birdlife throughout the year as distinct natural features. The reed beds accompany the bodies of water, while marram grass characterises the sandbank.

Jersie Strandpark and the Strandruten cycle route

Jersie Strandpark is a conifer plantation interspersed with deciduous woodland sections and grass-covered clearings suitable for spending time and playing. The grass-covered clearings create open areas between the conifer and deciduous woodland sections. Jersie Park and Staunings Ø also form a protected section with overgrown crowberry vegetation that is gradually developing into a reed bed area with abundant fauna. In Jersie Strandpark, the conifer plantation, deciduous woodland sections and grass-covered clearings clearly differ from the open beach. The signposted Strandruten cycle route runs along the coast at Solrød Strandpark and through Jersie Strand. At 6.2 kilometres, its length provides a fixed framework for an active day. Its route establishes two specific spatial reference points: the coast at Strandpark and Jersie Strand.

Church, museum and Vallø Castle

Solrød Strand also has cultural points of interest in the town. Solrød Strandkirke dates from 1982 and was designed by local architects Keld Wohlert and Niels Munk. The so-called smallest museum in Denmark is located in an old transformer tower dating from 1944 and tells the history of Solrød Strand. Vallø Castle is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Solrød Strand. This means that culture enthusiasts can view Solrød Strand through its sacred architecture, local history and wider regional surroundings.
