Stubberup: Natural Forests, Forest Lakes and Forestry History

Stubberup focuses on forests, water and forestry history. Stubberup Storskov is home to two small forest lakes, while Stubberup Skov is characterised by its distinctive natural forest character. There are also specific places and objects associated with Frans Muus, as well as the Øm Passage Grave in the surrounding area. Forest Lakes in Stubberup Storskov

Stubberup Storskov covers 168 hectares and extends southwards along the western boundary of Borup Parish. Gammelsø is a small, nutrient-rich forest lake south of Stubberup on the edge of Stubberup Storskov. Pertri Sø is a small forest lake in the southern part of Stubberup Storskov near Gammelsø. The two lakes therefore represent different sections of the same forest area: Gammelsø marks the edge, while Pertri Sø lies farther south. The 168-hectare Storskov provides the larger setting in which Gammelsø lies at the edge of the forest and Pertri Sø in the southern part. In this way, Storskov connects the two small lakes with the forestry history of Frans Muus.

Stubberup Skov and Its Public Facilities

Stubberup Skov should be distinguished from this forest area. Stubberup Skov is a small forest with a distinctive natural forest character; it can immediately be left to develop on its own. Apart from parking areas, Stubberup Skov has no other facilities for the public. If the public infrastructure available is important to you when planning your visit, you should take this limitation into account. For practical planning in this part of the forest, the existing parking areas are therefore the relevant facilities; there are no others.

Frans Muus and Forestry Work

Stubberup Storskov contains a memorial stone dedicated to the forester Frans Muus. Frans Muus worked in the forests for 34 years. He invented the Svenstrupskøjten, a spring-tooth harrow for clearing young stands of forest, and the Svenstrup mølleharve. The forestry history of Stubberup is thus reflected in the memorial stone and in Frans Muus’s two inventions.

The Skovbo Museum in Nr. Dalby displays drawings and the Svenstrup mølleharve. For visitors interested in culture, it therefore offers a specific museum location connected with Frans Muus and his work in the forests. The memorial stone in Storskov and the museum in Nr. Dalby are thus two different places associated with Frans Muus.

An Ancient Site in the Surrounding Area

The Øm Passage Grave, an ancient site, is also located in the surrounding area of Stubberup. Alongside forest lakes, natural forests and forestry history, it adds an independent cultural and historical dimension.
