Exploring the lakeshore

The Wałecka Aleja Gwiazd begins near the Miejskiego Ośrodka Sportu i Rekreacji. The Szlak wałeckich zabytków also follows the shore of Lake Raduń and then continues to the Aleja Gwiazd. If you are planning a loop, you can factor in the location of the bridge across the lake: the Kłosowski Bridge, also known as the suspension bridge, connects the two shores. It is for pedestrians only and shortens the walk to the forest on the opposite shore.

The line of fortifications of the Pomeranian Wall also runs through Wałcz by Lake Raduń. This brings the water, trails and traces of military history together in a single local setting, without requiring a longer route. The two museums are also in different locations that can help with orientation: the Muzeum Ziemi Wałeckiej is in the town center, at the intersection of Pocztowa and Orla streets, at the base of the Orla Peninsula on Lake Zamkowe. The open-air museum Grupa Warowna Cegielnia is the destination of two described routes. The Szlak wałeckich zabytków ends with a visit there; the Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia includes a sightseeing break there.

Choose a route by length

Several routes of different lengths are described to help you plan a walk. A 6 km hiking trail runs between Wałcz, Pluskota and Kołatnik, starting and ending in Wałcz. The longer 13.7 km route runs from Wałcz PKS bus station via allotment gardens, a bridge over the Dobrzyca and Lake Łubianka to the ZHP base and Ostrowiec PKS bus station. Another route, 4 km long, connects Ostrowiec with the Leśniczówka Wałcz forest lodge. Comparing the distances can help with planning your day; the destinations and waypoints described also differ.

More trails add to the selection: the green Wałcz–Czapla–Wiesiółka trail is 12 km long, while the black Wałcz–Kłębowiec trail is 7 km and passes through Pluskota and Rudnica. The 40 km Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia is marked with name signs as a cycling route. It runs through Kołatnik, Pluskota, Nakielno, Strączno, Chwiram and Wałcz, returning to Kołatnik. This offers a designated cycling route alongside other routes with their own distances and itineraries.

Water, sport and nature

At the latitude of COS OPO, Lake Raduń has rowing and canoe sprint courses with associated facilities, where competitions are held. Kayaks, boats and pedal boats are available for rent at the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji by the lake. As availability can change, it is recommended that you check before visiting. There are also canoeing routes on the Dobrzyca, Piława and Rurzyca rivers in the area around Wałcz.

The location of COS OPO Bukowina offers a different setting: it is at the exit from Wałcz towards Gorzów Wielkopolski, in a wooded area with beech trees. Visitors interested in technology and practical learning activities can find flight simulators and driving simulators for cars, forklifts and excavators at the local science center “Metalowe Inspiracje.” There is also an educational playground for younger visitors. The planned course program includes practical courses on, among other subjects, physical and chemical topics, computer science, renewable energy and LEGO construction, as well as a simulator lab with elements of robotics, mechanics and technology.
