Culture and Urban History

The Old Town Market is home to the Archaeological and Historical Museum and the Tourist Information Centre in reconstructed neo-Baroque buildings. The Tourist Information Centre provides visitor information as well as publications on tourism, sights and the history of Stargard.

The city’s surviving fortifications include four towers and three gates, including the Water Mill Gate. Stargard’s historical sights also include the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of the World and the medieval city walls; both were designated “Historic Monuments” in 2010.

Landscape

Góry Lipki and Lisica are located in the wider regional surroundings of Stargard. The Pyrzyce-Stargard Plain around Stargard contains numerous lakes. The nearby Goleniowska Forest and Ińsko Landscape Park also offer larger forest and lake landscapes.

In the broader regional context, Stargard County is considered a postglacial landscape with moraine hills, numerous lakes and extensive forests.

Routes through the Region

The Blue Anna Jagiellonka Trail begins at Stargard railway station and leads via Grzędzice, Sowno and Strumiany towards Szczecin Załom; it is 35 km long. Near Grzędzice, the trail passes through landscapes with glacial drumlins.

Hiking routes in Stargard County lead through postglacial landscapes, past lakes and through river valleys and forests.
