Culture

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross stands in Pieszcz. It was built in the late 15th century in the Late Gothic style; its form is considered unique in Pomerania.

Elements added to the church later include a southern chapel from the 17th century, a Neo-Gothic extension from the late 19th century, a tower dated 1625, and a clock face on the church tower dated 1822.

History and landscape

The history of Pieszcz includes an old Slavic settlement first mentioned in 1335. As a noble estate, Pieszcz belonged to the Below family for more than 500 years.

The former palace of Pieszcz has not survived; by the mid-1980s, only dilapidated ruins remained.

Pieszcz was associated with sheep farming for a long time. At one point, more than 1,000 sheep were kept there.

Before the Second World War, Pieszcz had an extensive historic agricultural and village economy with a grain water mill, a sawmill, a brickworks, a lime kiln, an inn, and a distillery.

A landscape park was established in Pieszcz in 1782 by Magdalena Regina von Krockow.
