Łącko: Half-timbered houses, village layout and Lake Wicko

Church, lime trees and village history

The parish Church of the Annunciation is Gothic. It was built in the 13th century and remodelled in 1607. A row of old lime trees surrounds the church grounds; ten of them are recognised as natural monuments. The church and trees thus bring together architectural history and a notable protected natural feature in the village. A grand commemorative plaque remains at the site where the young Prince Bogusław X is said to have lived. The historical connection remains a tradition: Bogusław X is said to have lived there.

Facilities at Lake Wicko

A wooden leisure pavilion and park hammocks have been installed at the beach on Lake Wicko in Łącko. The footpaths have a natural gravel surface. The beach recreation area also has a designated fire pit. A self-service bicycle repair station has also been installed there. These facilities offer several practical ways to enjoy time outdoors by the lake, without making any one activity the sole focus of the place.

Cycling route and different views of the lake

On the R10 cycling route towards Łącko, Lake Wicko comes into view to the left of the route. When arriving in Łącko, you can also turn left to see the lake from another perspective. The two viewpoints described differ in their setting: one is on the approach to the village, the other is at the point of arrival. For navigating by bike, this distinction is more useful than a general description of the route. The Trasa szachulca i legend (Half-timbered Houses and Legends Trail) offers a different focus: it highlights the oval layout of the village and complements the view of the lake with Łącko’s distinctive shape.

Kraina w Kratę and a historic certificate

Łącko is located in Kraina w Kratę (the Checkered Land) and is considered a valuable historic, architectural and natural ensemble, as well as an outstanding example of the region. This classification reflects the half-timbered buildings preserved in the village and the combination of architectural and natural features. In 2019, Łącko received a certificate for participating in the network of Poland’s most interesting villages. The certificate relates to this participation in 2019. Together with the church, the commemorative plaque and the trail highlighting the oval layout, the village’s history offers several specific themes to shape a visit around.
