Anyone looking for a waterside town rather than a classic Baltic Sea resort can take these different aspects into account when choosing where to stay.
The Oder River and water sports
Gryfino’s riverbank is connected to the Zachodniopomorski Szlak Żeglarski. This network links tourist harbors and marinas in West Pomerania along the Oder, the Szczecin Lagoon and the Baltic coast with German waterways. This makes Gryfino part of a larger area for water tourism, without equating the town itself with a Baltic Sea beach.
At the Oder beach on ul. Sportowa, water sports equipment is available for hire. Options include single kayaks, tandem kayaks with space for a child, and SUP boards. The riverbank is also a stop for passenger ships. A different kind of waterside stay is expressly not possible on the Eastern Oder in Gryfino: the bathing area there is unguarded, and swimming is prohibited. Anyone planning activities on the river should take this restriction into account.
A cycling route runs along the entire riverside promenade, where there is also a free toilet. The promenade can therefore be considered as a stretch for a cycling trip or a stay by the water. Water sports and cycling offer different focuses: the rental service is the main feature at the Oder beach, while the promenade has a continuous cycling route.
Cycling routes with different characteristics
A cycling route leads from Jana-Pawła-II Street in Gryfino via Wełtyń to Gardno. Another option is the section of the Blue Velo route connected with Gryfino: it is about 46 kilometers long and forms part of a route that is 257 kilometers long overall. The section runs mostly along former railway embankments, as well as forest tracks and public roads with light traffic.
The two options differ in their stated length and route. Those looking for a connection between several places can consider the route via Wełtyń to Gardno. Historic town layout and culture
Away from the river, Gryfino also has a distinctive town center: the historic town layout remains clearly recognizable as a 13th-century town foundation. Anyone interested in urban history can factor in this character alongside activities on the water and by bike when choosing a destination.
Regular choir concerts and the Gryfińskie organ music concerts are held at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Church music is therefore one of the town’s recurring cultural experiences. Kino Gryf adds a different format: it is one of the smallest cinemas in Poland and the only cinema in Gryfino County. It shows film premieres and 3D screenings. Culture enthusiasts can therefore choose between a concert, the historic town layout and a visit to the cinema.
