Cycling routes of varying lengths

The Trasa Pojezierzy Zachodnich crosses Choszczno Municipality along a 20 km section running from its southern to its northern boundary. This section is part of a 420 km route that runs from the border with the Federal Republic of Germany to Biały Bór. When planning a trip around a longer cycling route, you can distinguish between the length of the section within the municipality and the scale of the full route.

Another option is “Rowerem po Ziemi Choszczeńskiej”: at 83 km, it is the main tourist cycling route in Choszczno Municipality. The signposted Green Route runs for 16.7 km from Choszczno to Recz. These figures describe different routes, not one combined itinerary. When planning your own ride, it is therefore useful to treat the desired length and the stated route of each as separate points of reference.

History and culture in Choszczno

The Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 14th century. Inside the church are a ceramic relief of the Tree of Jesse depicting the genealogy of Christ, and a 15th-century epitaph to Mayor Mikołaj Rebentisch. Visitors interested in religious buildings and historical memorials will find several points of interest in one place: the church’s architectural history, a depiction of Christ’s genealogy and the epitaph.

Choszczno’s defensive walls also date from the 14th and 15th centuries. At the corner of Piastowska and Wolności streets, a Gothic tower of the barbican outwork of the Stone Gate complex has been preserved. These structures add fortifications to the picture of the town’s medieval history. The Choszczno water tower, built in 1903, dates from a later period. The Aleja Gwiazd Kolarstwa Polskiego was unveiled in 2002 and offers a distinct tribute to the history of cycling.

The Muzeum Ziemi Choszczeńskiej preserves several hundred movable artefacts dating from the Stone Age to the present day. Visits are possible only after a visit time has been confirmed in advance. The museum is therefore a cultural attraction for which you must confirm your visit time beforehand.

Lake, walks and other activities

Lake Klukom in the centre of Choszczno is surrounded by a promenade. The recreational area by the lake also includes fishing spots. Here, a town lake with a promenade is complemented by a specifically noted opportunity for fishing. The original layout of the walking paths has been preserved in Moniuszki Park. Miejska Góra offers a walking area with running routes. These places offer different ways to enjoy outdoor activity without needing to combine them into one route.

The Modry Las golf complex also includes the 9-hole Orli Las course. If you would like to consider leisure activities beyond cycling routes and historic sites, you can include this course as a separate place to visit.

Choszczno County has numerous lakes and rivers, many of which are managed fishing waters. The wider travel region also includes Drawieński National Park, a protected part of the old Drawsko Forest. Remains of a medieval Cistercian monastery complex have been preserved in Bierzwnik. The recurring event “3 Dni na Cysterskim Szlaku” takes place there. During the event, members of the association for the protection of Cistercian heritage guided tourists through the monastery and to archaeological sites in Bierzwnik.
