In Białogard, medieval traces meet cycling and hiking routes, as well as landscapes of rivers and moraine hills. For planning your trip, you can choose activities by interest: there are routes for cycling, a circular trail that can be completed in a day, and rivers suitable for canoeing. City Walls and Medieval Traces
The surviving remains of the medieval city walls, including Brama Wysoka and the shell towers, illustrate the defensive structures typical of a medium-sized Pomeranian town. Brama Wysoka, also known as Połczyńska, was built together with the city walls at the beginning of the 14th century. The surviving sections of the walls are accessible via Matejki Street; check access before your visit.
Cycling routes also trace the history of the area. The cycling route following the oldest traces of settlement in the Białogard region starts on Płowiecka Street, at the site of an early medieval fortified settlement originally located between the Parsęta and Leśnica rivers. Jezioro Rybackie lies along this route and offers opportunities for fishing and relaxation. A pile-dwelling settlement stood in the southern part of the lake more than 1,000 years ago.
Cycling and Hiking Routes
The cycling route between Białogard and Karlino connects the two towns and is part of the Stary Kolejowy Szlak Rowerowy. Another cycling route runs between Białogard and Moczyłki. It is just under two kilometres long, 2.5 metres wide and has a bituminous surface.
An unmarked hiking trail around Białogard passes through Rościno, Lulewice, Żelimucha, Kościernica, Pomianowo, Dargikowo and Klępino Białogardzkie before returning to Białogard. It can be completed in a day. Another unmarked trail follows the embankment of the former narrow-gauge railway from Białogard via Kisielice, Łęczno, Nasutowo, Zagórze and Podwilcze to Rarwino. This route is 20 kilometres long. The two trails offer different planning details: the circular trail can be completed in a day, while the distance of the route to Rarwino is given in kilometres.
River Landscapes and Viewpoints
The Parsęta, Radew, Pokrzywnica and Chotla rivers are suitable for canoeing. In Białogard, the kayak station on Szpitalna Street has a floating jetty on the Parsęta. This means that, in addition to the four rivers, there is also a specific waterside location to visit. Riding stables in Dargikowo, Lulewiczki and Nawino offer riding lessons; check the individual arrangements before your trip.
Góra Kościernicka is an exposed moraine hill with panoramic views of Białogard in the valley below. East of Białogard lies Góra Niwka, a kame hill above a marshy hollow, with views of the town and Góra Kościernicka. The two hills therefore offer different perspectives on Białogard and its surroundings.
The natural landscape of Białogard Municipality includes river valleys, forest lakes, ponds, peat bogs, moraine hills, kames and forests. A striking river valley is the gorge of the Parsęta between Rzyszewo, Tychówko, Osówko and Wicewo. It is deeply incised, with side valleys, pronounced differences in elevation and deciduous forest. Rzyszewo, however, lies outside the area, in Tychowo Municipality. In Czarnowęsy, the palace park covers 23.38 hectares and lies on the south bank of the Mogilnica. Rościno is also home to a unique hydroelectric power station.
