Burszewo is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and MrÄ…gowo County. It is located in the northern part of the Sorkwity Gmina, 12 kilometres from Sorkwity and 17 kilometres from MrÄ…gowo.
History
Burszewo was founded around 1440 as a Prussian village under feudal law and was initially known as Falkenhaym or Falkenkaym. Earlier names for Burszewo include Falkenhayn, Bruβewen, Pruβöwen, Burschöwen, Burschewen and Prußhöfen; the name Burszewo has been used since 1945.
Culture and Surroundings
In the area surrounding Burszewo lies Reszel – Zamek Biskupów Warmińskich, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. In the wider regional area lies Kętrzyn – Zamek Krzyżacki Rastenburg, dating from the 14th century.
Nature
Storks and their nests are associated with Burszewo and are considered a visitor attraction. Although the number of storks declined after a severe hailstorm in 2012, it has been recovering since then.
