Aptynty: Hotels and Accommodation

Aptynty is a rural settlement in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Kętrzyn County and the Gmina of Barciany.

Landscape

Aptynty has a history shaped by its aquatic landscape. In the 18th century, a watermill stood there beside an artificial reservoir. This was created by a dam on a stream connecting Lake Arklickie with the Omet River.

In the wider regional area around Aptynty are Upałty, Gora Rytaya, Gora Ozërnaya and Gora Mërtvaya.

History

The history of the settlement is connected with Old Prussian and medieval settlement history. This includes records from the 14th and 18th centuries, as well as the mention of land during the time of Grand Master Werner von Olsen.

In the area surrounding Aptynty lies Barciany with the Zamek Krzyżacki XIVw. In the wider regional area lies Kętrzyn with the Zamek Krzyżacki Rastenburg XIVw.

The rural heritage of Aptynty included an estate that was historically connected with the entail of the von Egloffstein family in nearby Arklity. Later, a state agricultural enterprise operated there.

The history of the settlement also includes a beekeeping tradition. In the late 19th century, an apiary designed as a model pavilion was operated there. Beekeeping courses were held at this apiary; a beekeeping school existed until 1939.
