Galiny brings together local history, a four-hectare landscape park and a stud farm offering horse riding and carriage driving. The village can therefore be explored from three perspectives: through the manor house, the park and woodland landscape, and activities centred around horses. Local History and Residence
The Teutonic Order founded Galiny as a village and noble estate between 1332 and 1336. In 1589, Botho zu Eulenburg had a residence built here, classified either as Late Gothic or as Prussia’s first Renaissance manor house. These different classifications give the village’s architectural history a distinctive point of reference. The building fabric and numerous features, including sgraffito on the gable façades and elements of the interior fittings, have been preserved. The surviving features thus range from the design of the façades to the interior of the residence.
Landscape Park and Woodland
The landscape park at the Galiny estate lies in the valley of the meandering Pisa River and on the slopes of a ravine. Its features include a pond, islands, an embankment, cascades, paths and pavilions. Its location and features together shape the character of the grounds: the valley and ravine slopes provide the landscape setting, while water, paths and pavilions add further accents. The park can therefore be understood not only by its size, but also by its topography and the variety of its features.
The woodland, historically connected with Galiny Castle Park, offers a second perspective on nature, with woodland nature trails running through it. While the park is described as a designed landscape, the trails bring the woodland itself into focus. If you plan to include these paths in your itinerary, check current access before your visit.
Horse Riding and Events
At Galiny Stud, riding lessons are combined with seasonal use of the equestrian facilities. The riding school offers lessons to adults and children at different experience levels. Lessons take place in four riding arenas and a covered indoor arena. With instruction, you can improve your riding skills throughout the year: in summer, lessons take place in an outdoor arena, and in winter, in the covered arena. If you plan to take lessons, confirm the current arrangements with the stud in advance, as operational details may change.
Shetland ponies and carriage rides are also available for children, who are taught how to drive a horse-drawn carriage. This adds a different horse-related activity to the riding lessons. Ask the stud about current arrangements before your trip.
The stud offers experienced riders rides in the surrounding countryside; according to the description of its offerings, the season is not a significant factor. Compared with the lessons, the target group here is narrower: the rides are specifically for experienced riders, while the riding school offers lessons to adults and children at different experience levels. Please confirm current availability with the stud in advance.
The events calendar includes regional show-jumping competitions, which the operator describes as taking place annually in May. The stud also hosts the Open Championships of Warmia and Masuria in single- and pair-horse driving. Traditionally, its autumn season ends with the Hubertus ride.
