Discover Tidan: Cultural History and Nature Destinations
Accommodation in Tidan
Tidan’s cultural and historical character ranges from a well-preserved 19th-century farmstead to the town’s industrial history. Nearby, a stone ship setting, a covered bridge, and the Östen Ramsar wetland add historical and landscape themes. You can focus on local history, distinctive cultural destinations, or nature.

Local History and Cultural Sites
Vallby Sörgården in Tidan is a well-preserved 19th-century farmstead. In and around the Vallby Sörgården cultural reserve, you can find a runestone, remains of roads, and several Iron Age graves. The finds indicate that the area has been used since prehistoric times. The farmstead and archaeological evidence from different periods thus belong to the same cultural and historical theme.
The Yllefabriken was founded in 1910; its founding marked the beginning of the town of Tidan. Historically, the Tidan River was an important source of power for mills, power stations, and the textile industry. This offers two distinct perspectives on history: a precisely dated founding point and the river’s historical importance to several industries.
Centralföreningen in Tidan houses a craft and gift shop, an art gallery, and a museum. The museum also displays vintage light motorcycles. Its themes range from crafts and art to the history of technology—a different way to explore culture than through farmsteads, graves, and stone monuments.
Stone Monument, Bridge, and Cultural Route
Near Tidan lies Askeberga skeppssättning, Sweden’s second-largest stone ship setting. It consists of 24 boulder-shaped stones about two metres high, arranged in an oval 55 metres long and 18 metres wide. The oval is about three times as long as it is wide. The number of stones and the measurements give a concrete sense of the site as a whole.
Also nearby is Vaholms Brohus. The covered bridge crosses the Tidan River and is probably the only bridge of its kind in Sweden. Askeberga and Brohus offer different architectural features: an oval stone formation on the one hand, and a covered river crossing on the other.
Kulturväg Skaraborg is a tourist route where you can explore historic sites and striking natural landscapes independently. It ends in Tidan and is marked with brown-and-white signs. As a themed route, it offers a different setting from visiting a single named cultural destination.
Lake Östen lies near Tidan and is a Ramsar wetland of international importance. If you are choosing what to see in the area based on more than cultural sites alone, this offers a distinctly different theme: a wetland of international significance.
Park, Garden Railway, and Summer Programme
Vävareparken in Tidan includes the redevelopment of the historic manager’s garden with additional plants. A municipal description from June 2025 also mentions a newly resurfaced fitness trail with lighting. The park brings together garden history and exercise as distinct features.
Bennys Trädgårdsjärnväg in Tidan is a miniature garden railway and visitor attraction. It is one of Sweden’s largest garden railways and has a scale of 2:22.5. The scale provides a technical detail, while the cautious description as one of the largest garden railways gives a sense of its size in a national context.
Olstorps Festplats offers live music in summer, featuring current party bands and artists. The grounds have a separate dance floor for bug dance in a folk-park setting; Club Veboá is an open-air disco at Olstorps Festplats in Tidan. The summer schedule is important for planning: check the specific event dates in advance.
Local Character and Swimming Plans
Österbergs Konditori in Tidan preserves a 1950s atmosphere, adding a different local touch from the historic monuments and parks. For the outdoor Tidanbadet swimming pool, however, its current status is important for planning: a 2026 report says that the outdoor pool in Tidan has been closed for renovation work since 2023. Before visiting to swim, check whether its status has changed in the meantime.
